pity party with hot fudge sundae?

Hi everyone, Had a bad day, bad week....since I'm an emotional eater I decided to "make myself feel better" by going out to get a hot fudge sundae but stopped at my door, paused and thought about words of encouragement I've read on this site. I've been ridding my home of wrong foods and have gathered so much info for whenever my surgery will be so I decided to put some of that good advice to practice. I "ran" to my bullet, constructed a sf/ff choc/coffee protein shake..it took care of the craving!! Thank you all so much for the great advice you share on this site! I see my nutritionist for the first visit this coming wk. This was a BIG hurdle for me. I didn't give in to temptation. And all of you helped make that happen. Thank you!!! Alice

Well, congratulations! You did much better than I did before surgery ... I gained 40 pounds before I had my surgery, just getting angry and impatient waiting to have it! I applaud your efforts!

Thank you so much. I have big cravings every day and gave into pizza last weekend. But I'm going to try to stop and think before eating. I'm 56yrs old and you'd think by now I would know how to eat but I don't.  One day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at a time. I've got to stop feeding myself till I'm so stuffed that I'm uncomfortable. When I see the psychiatrist for the consult, she's gonna have her hands full. Thanks for your support...this is the only place I have it. Alice

You know, I still enjoy pizza ... but now I don't stuff myself on it. I still enjoy a piece of cake ... but just a small piece. This surgery has taught me to eat small portions. Why couldn't I do that before the surgery? It was all there for me to learn, but I couldn't do it. The surgery and my therapist (who I saw for a year before surgery and two years after, and who I'm back seeing again for other issues (I have overspending issues too ... had them at the same time as overeating) helped me conquer it; the therapist and you folks here helped me conquer me emotional eating issues ... my triggers are boredom, loneliness, an emptiness that I try to fill with food and things. You may need to see a therapist longer than that one visit; I did. It helped me so much.  You are filled with a lot of insight, Alice, and that's going to help you so much on your journey.

Alice,  What a wonderful thing to do for yourself, you are implementing a change of behavior and that is what it takes to have a successful WLS journey, changing the behaviors is what will give us lasting and healthy rewards!  Keep it up girl and perhaps put a can somewhere and everytime you feel like sabotaging yourself, put the amount of money you would have spent on the item (ie, hot fudge sundae, $3.00) in the can, I'll bet you fund your new wardrobe over time. . . Hugs, Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

Hey, Alice, that was some fantastic thinking on your part. It shows just how dedicated you are to the changes that you are on the way to having. Keep up the great work, it will help to show them how dedicated you are to this surgery too and the doctor is bound to notice that.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Alice, Good for you. Giving in to those cravings never really makes us feel better in the long run. They are a momentary fix, usually followed by guilt. I slowly introduced healthy alternatives in my house. Eventually I reached the point of saying - if I can't eat it, keep it away from home. Very drastic perhaps, but so is WLS. My hubby doesn't object to eating SF pudding or SF popsicles. Good thing because I'd have a tantrum at this point. I know what my trigger foods are and don't want the temptaion.  You are on your way to a healthier life  style! Good for you.
